Hota’s Story

Hota was a malamute-wolf cross who lived at Mission: Wolf. Despite the low wolf content, he was hot-headed and unsuitable to live in a home. The famous “Hota Hill” that overlooks Mission: Wolf to the East and the Sangre de Cristo Mountains to the West was named after this founding member of the refuge. Hota later became father to Haida. Hota passed away due to old age, but his spirit still lives on in his namesake mountain.
